Euro 2012 – The Bloggers Predictions Part Four

Posted by admin on 7th June, 2012

Yesterday saw part three of our bloggers predictions series, where a few surprises were suggested and a few shocks too with England, Germany and Italy being deemed not good enough to progress past the group stage. Today though is our fourth installment and we have two more bloggers thoughts on what’s going to happen during the tournament.

First up is Jamie Smith who is the co-founder of the excellent Burnley fansite, NoNayNever whilst rounding off today’s predictions will be Robert McCracken who pods for The SPL Podcast and writes for the excellent Lovely Left Foot site

Hopefully, amongst these last four posts, you’ll have found some winners, ready to take on the bookies during Euro 2012. Over to Jamie:

Name - Jamie Smith

Blogger’s bio - online news writer, co-founder of Burnley FC fansite nonaynever.net

Twitter - @jamiesmiff

Group A

Winners - Russia (6/4 with bet365)

Runners-up Poland - Russia the tournament dark horses as usual, Poland have goals through Lewandowski (Poland to qualify 4/5 with Ladbrokes)

Group B

Winners - Germany (6/5 with Will Hill)

Runners-up - Holland – don’t think Ronaldo will be able to carry Portugal through (4/7 to qualify with Coral)

Group C

Winners - Spain (4/7 with Will Hill)

Runners-up - Ireland. Italy are in poor form and crisis, fancy Ireland to sneak through (4/1 with BetVictor)

Group D

Winners - France (13/8 with Ladbrokes)

Runners-up - England – England should have enough against Sweden and Ukraine to get into the next round. (4/7 to qualify with bet365)

Tournament finalists - Spain/Germany (8/1 with Ladbrokes)

Tournament winners - Spain to win it. Even though some of their stars are looking tired/old, I think they’re easily the best team in the competition. Germany to lose in the final but push them tight. England to lose in the quarters, probably on penalties. (11/4 with Ladbrokes)

Golden boot – Klose; he’s different class at international level and Germany should create lots of chances. I’m assuming they have the sense to pick him over Gomez. (16/1 with Paddy Power)

Player of tournament – Fabregas. Think he’s ready to step up and be a really important player for Spain. Will score the winner in the final. (40/1 with Paddy Power)

Player most looking forward to watching -

Looking forward to seeing Andrea Pirlo – not exactly an unknown presence but he’s an absolute joy to watch. From the youngsters – M’Vila for France could stand out if he proves his fitness. (Pirlo to be player of the tournament 80/1 with Will Hill)

You have 100 quid for one bet and one bet only during the Euros. What’s your bet?

I’d stick it on Ireland to qualify from their group. Italy are too poor defensively and Croatia have lost Olic to injury. Really think they can get through, especially if they avoid a thrashing against Spain. (4/1 with BetVictor)

So, with Jamie’s predictions done and dusted it’s time to see what Robert has to say. Here you go:
